Science
- What is Chaos? Parts I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, & VIII. As the name of the blog suggests, I am expert on Chaos Theory. There are very few good introductions to Chaos Theory for a general audience. Writing this series was a major reason why I created this blog.
- Why is the Sky Blue? If you’re looking for something lighter than an eight part series on Chaos Theory, look here.
Religion
- My Testimony. A concise statement of my most important religious beliefs.
- A Data Driven Recent History of Missionary Work. A history of Mormon missionary work since 1977, with a focus on the number of missionaries and number of people baptized. This is my only post that competes with the What is Chaos? series in number of views.
History
I am not a historian, so most of the post in this category are book reviews. There is very little original work here, but I still hope to summarize and make more accessible others’ work.
Philosophy
I am also not a philosopher. Most of this category is philosophy of science. My most popular post is also one that I am less confidence of, which is perhaps fitting for the category.
Book Reviews
This category includes a lot of my top posts, and is quite diverse, so I’ll include several.
- LEVIATHAN AND THE AIR PUMP by Stephen Shapin and Simon Schaffer (1985). Hobbes and Boyle in the early days of science.
- A HISTORY OF THE THERMOMETER AND ITS USE IN METEOROLOGY by W. E. Knowles Middleton (1966). What even is temperature?
- THE HORSE, THE WHEEL, AND LANGUAGE by David W. Anthony (2007). History of the domestication of the horse and the origins of the Indo-European language family.
- SEEING LIKE A STATE by James C. Scott (1998). The best political book I’ve read. Hopefully, I’m helping to make Scott’s ideas more accessible.
